By Moshe Feldenkrais
The Work of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais DVD set is one of the few professionally recorded examples of Dr. Feldenkrais presenting both Awareness Through Movement, Functional Integrationand basic theory of the Feldenkrais Method to the general public.
It was videotaped in a Canadian television studio. The studio setting is dated, but the overall quality of the program is good. It is interesting to see how Moshe chooses in this context to present the Method to the general public. Included are two FI lessons with discussion about theoretical elements of FI and one ATM lesson led by Moshe, where again he explains elements of what he is doing. There are two lectures: one on posture and one titled “Talking Is not Thinking.” These are short and focused classic talks making them quite accessible to a wide range of people. They are the strongest part of the overall program and some of the best options available for showing Moshe in a class or workshop.
Moshe Feldenkrais, D. Sc. (1904 - 1984) began developing what has become known as the Feldenkrais Method after he sustained a crippling knee injury while working in England during World War II. His own recovery process and subsequent wide-ranging research resulted in the creation of a unique educational system that incorporated his background in physics, Judo, and a lifelong interest in human development. By the end of Dr. Feldenkrais’s life, the Feldenkrais Method had gained an International reputation and he had trained a significant number of teachers. The Method that bears his name continues to evolve and spread across the globe.
